Villa Tusculano
This villa is an enduring symbol of Appignano and valuable monument for history and architecture. It was built during Napoleonic times, commissioned by Count Leopoldo Armaroli and designed by architect Giuseppe Nadi from Bologna.
Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista
This church was restored in the 18th century and currently it has longitudinal plan, one nave and a stunning stone portal that is particularly renowned for its tympanum and cartouche. Its Gothic belfry is of particular interest.
Chiesa dell’Addolorata
This church is named in the honour of Our Lady of Sorrows, which was venerated as early as 1550, when the Council resolved to repair the aedicula. However, in the year 1746, it was re-built in the area of Santa Croce because of its poor conditions. In the place of an aedicule, a church was built thanks to the offerings collected.
Palazzo Comunale
This palace (town hall) was designed by architect Mattia Capponi from Cupramontana and built in 1790. Its façade has three arches and two niches giving access to a groin vaulted portico.
Convento di Forano
This is a monastery whose origins are not thoroughly documented. In this area, between the 12th and 13th centuries, there was a hospice and perhaps some Benedictine settlements as well. According to Father Cyrus from Pesaro, around 1215 St. Francis arrived in the woodland of Forano where he found a small hospice for monks abandoned and crumbling with a church dedicated to the Annunciation. There, says Father Cyrus, St. Francis established a monastery.
